Type Locality and Naming

Sichuan Basin – south. Gaokanba in Sichuan Province; named by Sichuan Air Geological Survey Team, 1980, Explanatory Text for 1:200 000 Scale Geological Map: Langzhong, Deyang, Santai and Jianyang Sheet


Lithology and Thickness

The Gaokanba Formation (~200 m) is a gray sandstone with well-rounded grains and large-scale cross-bedding.

Lower contact

On regional stratigraphic columns, the next older unit is the Sanhe Fm.
